A new broom sweeps clean, and an old broom sweeps but not a well as a new broom. Why is that?
Just as all matter in the universe is worn down by the ravages of time, so too the broom. It starts off so strong and forceful, but the dirt and grime gradually wear the broom down. The dirt and grime will continue to build if left unswept, but in the tide of such unrelenting dirt, the broom becomes worn and falls apart. The human soul, like a broom, enters the world fresh and strong, but over time is worn down by the dirt and grime of the world. This is how we lose our joy, and peace. We try to change the world, to make it clean and liveable for our pure souls, but the dirt and grime are too much for one little broom. What’s needed are many brooms, all sweeping in unison, and maybe some vacuum cleaners, dust busters and a few dustpans and brushes.
